Being a Stanley Steamer owner means a couple of things. First,
that you are undoubtedly the proud owner of a piece of automotive history.
Second, that you have been entrusted with a responsibility.
A responsibility to your piece of history to give it the best care possible
and to preserve your vehicle in as close to original condition as possible
for future generations to enjoy. This is no easy task since
most of these vehicles are approaching 100 years old - if they haven't
already passed this landmark! Naturally this means that parts,
no matter how well constructed, wear out and need to be replaced.
As steam car owners ourselves we frequently wrestle with problems of supply.
Fortunately the Stanley community is a tight one - willing to share
sources and information to help keep these 'ole cars running just a
little bit longer. Getting tapped into the network, or finding
that elusive Stanley owner who has already 'done the legwork' isn't
always straight forward. That is why we at The Friends of
Auburn Heights Preserve are beginning a catalog of sources which we
would like to share with the Stanley Community at large.
We call this catalog "C.H.A.S.E." which is short for Clearing
House for Antique Steamcar
Enthusiasts but probably best typifies what we all
do when we are looking for parts! We hope that you, as
a steam enthusiast, will see the value this catalog provides and consider
offering us your sources for us to post.
