Steam Popcorn Popper And Peanut Roaster

Still in business today, the Creators Company of Chicago Illinois continues to produce high quality poppers that make that tasty popped corn treat enjoyed by millions everywhere. Charles Cretors & Company is one of the oldest manufacturers of popcorn popping machinery dating back to 1885. In that year they introduced the first patented steam driven popcorn machine that popped corn in oil.

Creators and his firm were pop corn innovators at the turn of the 20th century. They introduced the world's first mobile popcorn machine at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. At that time Scientific American reported: "This machine...was designed with the idea of moving it about to any location where the operator would be likely to do a good businesss. The apparatus, which is light and strong, and weighing but 400 or 500 pounds, can be drawn readily by a boy or by a small pony to any picnic ground, fair, political rally, etc. and to many other places where a good business could be done for a day or two."

By 1913 Creators was selling a wheeled, free standing, steam powered combination peanut & corn popper for $240.

While we don't know the exact age of our popper it still makes fabulous steam popped corn just like Charles Creators intended. Our popper is currently fueled by propane, but the steam still pops the corn in the original pan. And while it may be some time before we can offer fresh roasted peanuts to visitors of Auburn Heights (our peanut roaster still needs some work) nobody can resist the aroma of our freshly popped corn!
