Purchased about 1949, the origin of this car is not known. It is one of three metal-bodied
20 H.P. roadsters (1911-1914) in existence.
After its purchase, this very original car received a quick paint job, probably a new
top and side curtains and had some engine work done, the cylinders being
re-bored and oversized pistons and rings installed. It probably had a newly-retubed
boiler. It was driven on the 1950 Gliden Tour (1,200 miles) and the Steam Car
Tour in 1974. The first wheels after the 1950 restoration were 34 x 4, but about
1977 Elster Hayes wheels and rims of the original size, 36 x 4, were put on the
car. A new Don Bourdon boiler was put in in 1998 and a new water tank was made
by Keebaugh Sheet Metal and installed in 1999. The seats were recovered with new
leather about 1985.
