Purchased about 1948 from one of the early collection period “Used Car Dealers” (Mervin Allatt,
Donald Randall, Ralph VanDine)
This is an exceptional original condensing car and it has
required very little mechanical work to engine and moving parts. The boiler was
retubed by T. Clarence Marshall about 1948, and the car had a new paint job and
new leather, top and side curtains in the mid-1980’s. Used off and on for over
50 years, it has participated in Steam Car Tours of 1970, 1973, 1993, 1998 and
1999, and has been used on many local runs and at the Hagley Car Show 4 years in
a row (1996-1999). Three of the four wheels have been “tightened up” with
shims in 1998 and 1999. A flat condenser was fitted behind the cut-away original
condenser core (the original “V” type always leaked) during the 1949
restoration.
